INTRODUCTION TO UROLOGY DEPARTMENT:

Technologist are well trained in procedures relating to a wide spectrum of Genito-urinary disorders and they assist the urologist and doing Urodynamics, Extra corporeal shockwave lithotripsy,Uro Endoscopic procedures. Training includes orientation in transplant co-ordination registory and patient counseling.

ROLE OF UROLOGY TECHNOLOGIST/JOB DESCRIPTION:

ROLE IN PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT:

Ward rounds with doctors

Pre op and post op counselling

Blood transfusion

To check the pre op orders

ESWL

Urodynamic study

Patient history taking

Patient counseling

Per urethral catheterization

Suprapubic catheterization

All dressing

Suture removal

Urethral dilatation

Uroflowmetry

USG screening

Intra vesical chemotherapy

Bladder wash

 

ROLE IN ESWL(EXTRA CORPOREAL SHOCKWAVE LITHOTRIPSY):

Knowledge about the complete practical theoretical part of ESWL

Maintaining the ESWL machine

Preparing the patients for procedure

Pre and post ESWL counselling

Doing ESWL procedure and report interpretation

Monitoring the patient.

 

ROLE IN URODYNAMIC STUDY:

Knowledge about the complete practical theoretical part of Urodynamic study

Maintaining the urodynamic machine

Preparing the patient for procedure

Pre and post urodynamic counseling

Doing urodynamic procedure and report interpretation

Monitoring the patient

 

ROLE IN OPERATION THEATER:

Minor procedures in urology (catheterization, SPC, dressing, PCN, suture removal,Bladder wash, Intravesical chemotherapy)

Major procedures in urology (TURP, Ureterorenoscopy, PCNL, TURBT, Cystoscopy, circumcision, Renal transplantation, Urethroplasty, )

Operation theatre management

Renal transplantation, Transplants co-ordination.

 

HIGHER EDUCATION FOR UROLOGY TECHNOLOGIST:

For higher studies the candidates are also eligible to apply for their post graduate Degree courses in Genetics,Biotechnology, Anatomy, Phsiology,MBA, MS and Ph.D.

 

RESEARCH AND UROLOGY TECHNOLOGIST:

Preparing a project, forms of information retrieval, preparing, giving a lecture, writing a paper and a thesis.

 

PLACED IN UROLOGY TECHNOLOGIST:

In past 13 yrs, 33 students are well finished in this urology course and working in various place in world. In that 40% of students are working in abroad and 60% of students are working with in India. They are all well placed in highly specialized hospitals and sales professionals. (Narayani, SRM, SRMC, Global, tamilnadu urology centre, RG stone centre, Ambani hospital, Government hospital, karlz stores, Health ware)etc.

 

FUTURE FOR UROLOGY TECHNOLOGIST:

The graduate of this programme will be not only sound in their academic skills    but they will have the ability to perform several technologist procedures independently. Hence they will be valuable asset to the medical community in various settings including small hospitals and large super-specialty hospitals. In addition the graduates are well trained in principles of product promotion and marketing and therefore will be valuable to companies as sales professionals.

Further, the curriculum has been designed to meet with requirement for certification by several American Boards in the field of Allied Health Science. These graduates therefore, will be qualified to undertake the appropriate Board certifiacation examinations after fulfilling prerequisites and seek employment in other countries.

CAMPUS INTERVIEW:

Regular campus interviews are conducted for placement of the B.Sc.(AHS) students after their internship period in various hospitals and related companies in and around the country.
